In Plain Sight

Participatory project 2023 onwards.

What is domestic violence and how do we talk about it as a prevailing issue within society? How do we have that conversation when the issue is so fraught? Yet in not doing so, the people who experience domestic violence remain silenced, giving power to those that perpetrate this behaviour. In addition, it encourages a lack of knowledge and education giving way to misconceptions.

In Plain Sight aims to serve as an educational tool which can be rolled out in different, appropriate and safe settings. It aims to encourage conversation and allow a safe space for those difficult questions in the hope that it gives voice to survivors and supports change.

Participants are invited to engage for as little or as long as is comfortable by sitting and interact with the lightboxes and inter-changeable acetate displays. These may be discussion points or points to consider privately or inwardly.

Please note that this work focuses on the issue through the lens of the female in a heterosexual relationship which dominates statistics and historical occurrences as this is the lens through which the artist has experience. However, domestic violence does not discriminate and there will be others with stories to add to the discussion with equal importance.
