Self365
A ‘self-portrait a day for one year, 2013-2014.
Self365 emerged after a long period of self-reflection and evaluation. It functioned as a methodical self-analysis, a re-engagement with art practice, and an investigation into the medium of drawing itself. There was a creative challenge in being both subject and artist at the same time and whilst dealing with highly personal feelings and experiences. However, through the prolonged and demanding nature of the project, deeper narratives emerged and these ‘selves’ became characters of their own, exploring broader issues of the human experience, our sense of self and the concept of portraiture.

A multitude of physical methods were employed during the project which come loosely under the term ‘drawing.’ These methods revealed different facets of the self and allowed for direct and in the moment responses.
Ultimately, the project was born out of necessity. What began life as a sense-making visual outlet, evolved into a conscious creative expose of the human condition.
